March 23, 2015 -? Last year the New York Times advocated for nationwide legalization of marijuana saying that its prohibition was taking a toll on the American public both in terms of tax expenditures, prison populations, persecution of minorities and the removal of productive members of our work force.? As a result of this, and other mainstream organizations and political individuals coming forward, many states are making a serious move towards legalization.
According to experts there are at least 8 states that will legalize recreational marijuana in the next 2 to 5 years. These include: California, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Ohio, Maine, Massachusetts,? Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Vermont.? An article in Time magazine predicts that as many as 18 states will legalize marijuana, in some form, by 2020. February 26, 2015 — This week recreational marijuana was officially legalized in Alaska and Washington DC as a result of ballot propositions that were passed by public vote in November 2014.
February 22, 2015 – A study published in the journal of Scientific Reports concluded that marijuana was more than 100 times safer than alcohol. When compared to seven other drugs alcohol was found to be the deadliest drug followed by heroin, cocaine and tobacco. Previous studies had characterized marijuana as a safer drug but it was not known that the danger gap was so huge. Out of the seven drugs tested marijuana was the only one given the label of “low mortality risk.” The study recommends that drug agencies focus on keeping alcohol and tobacco use under control since they are amongst the most life threatening substances. February 16, 2015 – More than 100 Native American tribes, in multiple states, have contacted a management firm called FoxBarry Farms and have expressed an interest in the marijuana industry. FoxBarry Farms currently builds and operates multiple casinos on Native American reservations and is in conversations with dozens of tribes. This trend is coming in the wake of the Department of Justice’s letter to Native American tribes in 2014 giving them permission to grow, process and sell marijuana within specific guidelines. For example, FoxBarry Farms recently contracted with the Denver-based United Cannabis Corp. to build a giant medical marijuana farm on the Pinoleville Pomo Nation’s ranch in California.
The tribe has 250 members and plans to cultivate thousands of plants for the medical marijuana business on its 99-acre reservation. Read more??.

February 11, 2015 – An oversupply of? marijuana in Washington state is driving prices down. One recreational marijuana store sees this as an opportunity to compete with the black market. February 9, 2015 – Rapper, Snoop Dogg, is planning a $25 million dollar investment in the budding marijuana industry. According to the online magazine, TechCrunch, Snoop is currently raising funds for such a venture.? It’s not hard to believe considering that venture capital funding organizations like, ArcView Group, have already ponied up $20 million for the cannabis industry.
Not that surprising since Bob Marley‘s family joined up with a Seattle company called Privateer Holdings and launched the Marley Natural brand of premium cannabis in November of 2014.? Watch for other stars and celebrity entrepreneurs to hop on the weed industry train later this year.
According to the Wall Street Journal another start-up funding group,?Poseidon Asset Management’s Pioneer Hedge Fund has invested $5 million and is raising $75 million more for marijuana start-up ventures. Read More…….
